ABOUT US

Sharpen Conference began in 2012 as a training event for local church creative arts volunteers. Since then, it has grown into a community of churches, leaders, musicians, technicians, artists, and creatives. Thanks to a steady flow of gifted speakers, industry professionals, and experienced presenters who genuinely understand the challenges of modern church ministry, Sharpen Conference has helped pastors, leaders, and volunteers from as many as 100 Alberta churches create worship environments in which people are transformed by the presence of God.

Our passion is inspiring teams to create and lead expressions of worship that move all to pursue God and the glory of His presence.

And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into His image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
2 Corinthians 3:18 (NIV)

By God’s presence, our lives, churches, and world are
transformed.

As the Church, we must pursue God’s presence. When we fully engage in expressions of worship like prayer, praise, music, the arts, acts of service, hearing God’s Word, and so many more … we experience His glory, meet Jesus face to face, and are transformed. When we engage with the world around us, they experience God’s glory through us and are in turn transformed by His presence.

Our method is learning through community and leveraging the
power of team-based ministry.

If the ax is dull and its edge unsharpened, more strength is needed, but skill will bring success.
Ecclesiastes 10:10 (NIV)

As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.
Proverbs 27:17 (NIV)

Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from His love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.

Philippians 2:1-2 (NIV)

Our dream is teams of worshippers in every church, growing in character and skill, united in purpose, leading our churches and
world to encounters with Jesus.

Sharpen Conference is an official ministry of RockPointe Church and First Alliance Church and continues to be supported by a number of other churches, leaders, and local businesses. We believe in the power of team, and this is reflected in how we lead and steward Sharpen. As we began to plan for this coming year’s conference it became clear that our organizing team had become a community, and a passion was stirring to see Sharpen become a broader community of churches, leaders, musicians, techs, artists, and creatives who support, encourage, and inspire each other to achieve our mission on a more regular basis.

In recognition of this growing passion, we will begin to move towards “Sharpen Community” branding over coming months, with our feature conference SC2020 to be held at First Alliance Church on May 1&2, 2020.

Our theme for SC2020 is “Transcend: Where Heaven Meets Art.” The Transcend theme is pulled from Psalm 148:13 (ISV) “Let them praise the name of the Lord, for His name alone is lifted up; His majesty transcends earth and heaven.” The theme is aligned with our mission of seeing God’s presence bring transformation and will draw us deeper in exploring our identity as a creative people, giving focus to how we partner with the Holy Spirit in creating expressions of worship that transcend experience and lead to encounters with Jesus.

If you would like to be involved in our mission please contact us at info@sharpenconference.com. We would love to hear from you.
